    What is structured cabling and why does a business need it?

    Structured cabling is a standardised system of cabling and associated hardware that provides a comprehensive telecommunications infrastructure for a building or campus. It supports multiple uses such as data, voice, video, and building management systems through a single, organised framework rather than separate, ad hoc cable runs for each system.

    For a business, structured cabling means a cleaner, faster, and more manageable network. It reduces the time and cost of moves, additions, and changes, supports future technology upgrades without rewiring, and meets the performance standards required by manufacturers such as Molex, CommScope, and Telegärtner to qualify for an extended warranty on materials and workmanship.     Blown fibre is a fibre optic installation method in which optical fibres are blown through pre-installed microducts using compressed air, rather than being pulled or pushed through conduit. The fibres are not installed until they are needed, which means the duct infrastructure is future-proof by design.

    A business should consider blown fibre when planning an infrastructure that will need to scale. Because upgrading the fibre capacity requires only blowing new fibres through existing ducts rather than excavating or re-cabling, it dramatically reduces the long-term cost of bandwidth upgrades. It offers significantly higher resolution, smarter analytics including motion detection and thermal imaging, easier scalability, and the ability to monitor multiple sites from a single interface.
